im not too unhappy or anything
if you fuckers all move to new world and I have no one to arena with, I'm going to do nothing about it.
I still plan on arena about as much as I did last week. Think I did 80 games spread between 2,3 and 5
Sadly this happened and my New World dreams got crushed
Free for all pvp is great, looting players of gear is probably one of the dumbest things than can be done in an mmo. For their to be successful wpvp like EQ had or WoW classic on HS there has to be a large base of pvers out in the world doing pve stuff so assholes like Kanmuk and I along with human scum who play rogue types can go attack them in the hopes of their friends showing up and creating large world pvp battles (Thunderhold!)
Free for all pvp does create that in the fact it will force pvers to be flagged to go get their mats. But if you can loot gear from people then pvers would wonder why they do all this pve shit just to have assholes take it from them. Then they quit the game and the bottom of the pvp pyramid disappears and pvp as a whole dies. So them getting rid of looting players is great for long term pvp, them making it so you flag into pvp is bad unless they can give enough reason for people to flag in at higher levels. DAoC did this best by making your lower levels in a pvp free area so you could level up in peace (and join instanced BGS for some pvp) but almost all end game content was pvp related. NW seems to be kinda following that model but we will have to see .
What they planned originally sounded amazing, too bad they got cold feet on that and didn't consider pvp level ranges to solve this problem that supposedly forced them to segregate and water down the pvp to another generic opt-in minigame experience.
“One of the problems we observed with this system was that some high level players were killing low level players, A LOT. Sometimes exclusively. This often led to solo or group griefing scenarios that created a toxic environment for many players. To be clear, this behavior was not shown by all PvP players, but enough to cause significant issues.
We set out to build a compelling world full of danger and opportunity that begs to be explored. The intended design was never to allow a small group of players to bully other players.”
Level ranges. Come on.
Level ranges has its own griefing problems. Stuff like how a lv 9 Sumi would just camp and wreck lv 1 gnomes in steamfont. Twinking out people to wreck people in their bracket. OOR healers following people around etc.
You can opt in at I believe it was lv 10 for pvp which is what I did and plan to do. Most people just leveling wont so Ill only be fighting people my lv who want to fight (good) or higher levels coming to grief (im ok with this). The success or failure of the game comes down to what happens at the high end of the game though. If all the good materials to craft stuff is in zones you have to flag in for then it will create the necessary conditions for wpvp to be good. If most of the end game content is pvp, whether wpvp or taking over towns or instanced BGS then it also has the chance to be good.
Couldn't attack people under level 6 but yeah. OOR healers and twinks always felt like a mountain you could climb and overcome (even if it was technically griefing - you could kill a twink if you banded together).
Are yall planning on trying New World?
I believe in the initial phase of tz you could attack lv 1s. Yes a few of us are trying it out.
High density + high incentivization = grief fest. If that is the way New World is designed, then it probably needs opt-ins to avoid being “Phase 2 The Game”.
If it has lower density or lower incentivization ala EQ or original WoW, opt-ins will likely make it unplayable as a PvP game.
I have no idea how the game world is designed or if it’s a good idea to make these changes.
In any event, TBC Classic is mostly garbage, so it’s worth a shot.
I've been taking a break from WoW, I tried ff14 but its pretty much the same shit as retail wow but without open world pvp, and if you want to play pvp you have to buy the game.
Looks like New World drops tomorrow. Even though I think its going to be a giant fail ill give it a shot. If I get a month put of it its worth the money. Post where you guys decide to play.
the new xpac made arenas/bgs more accessible by adding faction pvp gear.
im gonna try it tho, i'll post where im playing-
tried it for like 40 mins before server went down. Killer Bob Ross on Valhalla
Runs pretty damn bad but it's playable I guess, just wondering how bad the FPS drops are when there's 10+ players on the screen in combat. I've read horror stories about mass pvp turning into a slide show even on mid-range gaming rigs.
gonna try to ignore that and see if the gameplay hooks me tho, not sure yet if I will refund or play
They all switched server to Sitara, I think.
That’s my bad, Sear. I should have posted it here.
I haven’t played it yet because I’m not sitting through the launch problems. I’ll pick it up today or tomorrow.
The streams make it look like absolute garbage, but that is obviously second-hand.
Played for a few hours yesterday. Theres definitely some issues. My computer is pretty old but it never turned into a slide show with 20+ people on screen in town.
However I've had to wait up to a minute or so for elements to load into the game as I'm running around (fences, npc's, resource nodes). Mobs warping around the screen make playing any ranged weapons a real pain in the ass sometimes.
Pvp doesn't seem bad, I flagged in as soon as I picked a covenant, got shit on 1v2+ quite a bit but the time to kill is slower and even losing was fun because you still get a chance to fight/run instead of just instantly die. Grinding out pvp quests for your covenant for gear is nice.
Yeah we are Sitara, Yellow team. Played 4 hours last night. Didnt have any lag or server problems. I died in pvp like 20 times as I flagged in asap and went out to exp and was always lower level than the guys I fought. I cant dodge for shit and am going to get wrecked in pvp so much but I found it fun.
Valhalla had a 20k queue yesterday which is why we switched to Sitara
that's nbd on the server, I just ran around testing the lag mostly anyway. got to level 8 mashing through the fetch quests I didn't read
those who have played it a fair bit (kors, mern?) - yall think it has any staying power?
It seems exciting because it's new but my first impression is it's like a janky version of Guild Wars 2 with no races and a less interesting world. The combat and pvp would have to make it worth playing.
Depends on what you expect by staying power. Exploring different weapon builds and learning how to actually dodge/block in pvp is probably going to take a while for most people and for me Ill never get good at it. Combined that with the leveling just to max level to see what end game is like is probably worth the 40 bucks or whatever the game cost. There is world pvp which is nice and one of the best things is that you have only one character per world so that increases the chances you will get to learn your opponents and hate/love them as you run into them various places in the world.
What will sink the game or keep it long term interesting is going to be the amount of wpvp at occurs at high levels. If you have to flag in to get rare ingredients and wars for controls of towns are fairly constant then the game as alot of potential similar to DAoC (where I honestly get the biggest vibe from). If you dont have to flag in though to get stuff then it will be alot of boredom as you are waiting for the big fights and that will kill the game.
I didnt come in with much expectations (just a little from the beta and the love of wpvp) but so far they have exceeded them
