I have never used either but that shit looks scary.

I can sortof get around git but I stick to the most simple of commands. If anything ever gets the least bit screwed up I nuke the local repo and re-clone.

Generally I'm scared of git lol

I really wonder how many people use git that way, because I definitely do too

i found learning git really sped up when i found a hobby project i would do consistently w/ it that required its use

i still dont rebase anything but super comfortable w/ all the basics

at work i was too afraid to break anything to learn much, even though git makes it really hard to do irreparable dmg

I hate all of this shit and will use it only as a necessary evil. I won't use them for personal project version control since it takes 5 seconds for me to back my shit up manually.

Perforce was the one I used prior to git. I think they're all about as intuitive as a Microsoft operating system. You'd think that a well-designed front-end would be popular by now, but nope. Most people are using the command line in 2019.

That’s a good point—I feel like the whole paradigm lends itself really well to a fairly straightforward GUI

    there are lots of GUIs

    like this one https://gitforwindows.org/

    guis are bad though

dont give in to your inner artist. starve it to death like the career it chose

This turned out to be a good thing. The code I wound up having to build back up from was weeks and weeks old but the code I deleted was becoming spaghetti in a hurry after all those intervening weeks of moving in different directions and not wanting to work backwards any more than absolutely necessary

I was able to get back to where I was in one day or so, and with much nicer code

Then I wrestled all morning today with svn trying to get it to pay attention to what I want and ignore the data files I have or will generate going forward, and then finagling all the filepath logic in my code to play nice with the new directory structure

But it’s all nice and clean and streamlined now and from here forward it should only have to add *, commit and update periodically

I really want to find whoever designed svn and kick them in the shins, though.

I mean I'm not a git fanboy by any stretch (shit is needlessly complex) but it's used fucking everywhere - the takeover is complete. Using svn feels a lot like going to slashdot for all your latest nerd updates or yahoo for searching.

I dunno what the reasoning is but if Hughes Research Labs says use svn then svn is the way of the future
