yeah if we are just voting for mario titles, i would put mario kart 64 at the top

 

What is the distinction I am missing?

 

Confession: I never liked 64 that much. I like 2/3/World so much better.

3D platforming always seemed clunky to me, having to mess with the camera or worry about depth when jumping just never felt intuitive.

The 2D entries control like the character is a natural extension of your mind or something. It's tight and you know exactly where you're going whenever you push the jump button.

I liked Sunshine better than 64, and I think Odyssey is the best 3D Mario game. I had a lot of fun with that one.

SMB1 was the first video game I ever played (way back in 1987). 2 holds the most nostalgia for me. 3 has the best gameplay of the NES entries. World is the one I probably spent the most time with. All four of them made distinct impressions on my childhood.

How is Mario RPG not a mainline title? there's like 5 of them. Same with Kart for that matter.

gonna post my fav level from each game

1: 6-3


this level scared lil Sear because it was weirdly monochrome with red-tinted clouds. I thought it was evil or something & kind of built up this mythology for it with my overactive child imagination. I'd also usually die on this level if I was doing a normal run without warps.

2: 5-1 (underground one with the waterfalls)

You could enter/exit the underground and keep getting the warp door for 99 coins to play the slots after the level.

3: Sky Castle (where you go up to the clouds) or the first level of World 3 where everything is McHuge

honorable mention to the level where you get in the little sack-thing and can jump on anything without getting hurt

World: all of the secret and Star Road levels were pretty awesome, so one of those

+ fav Mario RPG character was Geno ofc
