While I'm not basing my decision on this, I'm just curious what people here would choose. I tend to hang on to my vehicles for a rly long time (over 10 years on average) so I'm rarely dealing w/car decisions. Most of my prior vehicles have been purchased new.

I'm trying to decide between a brand new 2019 Chevy Silverado ($35k) and a used 2018 Chevy Silverado ($27k with 25000 miles on it already). Not a ton has changed between the two years except for a more modern infotainment system (newer versions of Android Auto, bigger color screen, etc.).

There are probably some new car incentives that would take another grand or so off the 2019 model. I guess it comes down to whether or not peace of mind of not having to worry about the prior owner and how they treated the car, whether or not it's going to shit itself sooner, etc. is worth the $7k. The 25000 miles obviously will affect resale too, so that's another consideration.

(I'm also generally stupid/useless when it comes to cars and have zero mechanical inclination. When my vehicles break down my usual tactic is to panic and cry, then throw money at someone until it starts working again.)

I think I'd buy it new, assuming you use it often and keep it until the wheels come off.

Year differences aside, I'm not sure that 25,000 miles is worth only a ~20% reduction in price. If the bigger monthly payment isn't an issue, you might save more over the long run (+ have the benefits of a newer truck).

+ u get that sweet new car smell and can sleep smugly at night knowing that there are poor Trump voters out there who have to settle for their shitty beer and ball sweat scented used trucks

If you keep your vehicle for 10+ years buy new because the value loss doesn't matter when you drive it off the lot. You also get a fancy warranty and peace of mind knowing some dumb shit hayseed didn't romp on your vehicle before you bought it.

My family’s fairly wealthy and I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of them buy a new car.

New cars are for the financially illiterate and chronic bad decision makers.

that logic is null for california

the east coast is magnitudes worse than california even with superior transportation infrastructure

going to the east coast is like walking into a bar and you came on a bad night, so you turn around and immediately leave

I've owned almost all Toyotas in my life, aside from my current Nissan Leaf which is leased, and a Nissan Pathfinder which I bought from my best pal (so I knew that shit was good - my only used car).

That said, I figured it's time to go FUCKIN MURCAN this time round (plus 2 be fair chevy trucks get consistently gr8 reviews so i don't think i'm taking a big risk there)
