I rolled a godlike wizard and am playing on normal and the game is still really difficult. but also really fun, but yeah, the game is pretty brutal

never ran into it - then again i tend to drag and drop equipment into their slots. never really double click.

I've heard about that bug but I never double-click to equip, drag and drop seems more intuitive. Probably why the designers never caught it.

    Re: Pillars of Eternity Out

I like it so far, the story doesn't feel cheesy. I was going to write that Wizard seems to be weakest so far, but all that burst just saved a boss encounter, so there might be a niche for them after all. A pity they often need to blow up the party too in the process. I'm going to try to stick to a four man group, that is about as much micromanagement as I can deal with.

    Re: Pillars of Eternity Out

If you want two characters you don't really have to mess with just make two custom Chanters (bards), or use Kana and one custom. They'll play their songs automatically every battle and if you give them a ranged weapon they'll auto-attack whoever. Their songs are useful, especially the ranged attack speed booster, and if you give them an arquebus/arbalest you'll occasionally see enemies getting chunked as you manage your 4 more active characters just from the sheer damage if one of their shots lands. THey also won't draw any agro or take damage unless something has gone very wrong and you would have wiped anyway.

I'm saving this game for when I get the gaming itch.

That's pretty good advice from Zeke on the low-maint extras.

I think Wizards can be pretty strong in bursts but the stats on the storyline wiz are pretty shit.

I still enjoy using him though because flashy spells are fun.

Thank you Ziakas, I've also been eyeing the Chanter. Mainly because it seems like a powerful and self-sufficient class though. I generally rather pit a few powerful characters against many enemies than the other way around.

    Re: Pillars of Eternity Out

    chanters are pretty beastly

wizards are ok so far, i've only gotten to level 3 spells on my main one, but taking the corrosive dmg buff + necrotic lance will 1 shot most normal mobs, and a lot of the corrosive spells don't have the friendly fire of fire/light

    Re: Pillars of Eternity Out

The range on most wizard spells is really bad. They'll all line-of-sight, touch or near-touch, fan/cone ect. There's a Magic Missile knockoff but it's pretty weak. Fireball is pretty good and seems to have an almost instant cast time.

    Re: Pillars of Eternity Out

My impression is that Wizards do a bit more damage, have a bit larger areas, and on average cast a bit faster than other casters. On the other hand they are nearly always friendly fire, they run out quickly and their fighting ability is otherwise low. Maybe they get strong at higher levels, but they seem easily the weakest at the start. Cipher on the other hand seems almost OP for smaller encounters.

So for those who have already gotten to the first big city and gone a ways in, I have a question on path chosen...

which faction did you chose? Dozens, Crucible Knights, or the mafioso noble family? Were you happy with your choice?

None of the paths seem particularly appealing to me so I'm having indecision probs.

I've been waffling on buying this game since it released. There is very little play of it going on on twitch.tv which seems weird for how popular it apparently is. Anyway, this thread pushed me over the edge I think. Gonna pick it up. Thanks for the reviews, folks.

Are people really degenerate enough to watch a 60+ hour primarily text-based isometric RPG on Twitch?

I generally try to watch some gameplay of any game before I buy it these days. I guess if that makes me degenerate, then yes.
