Do people still go to dealerships? is there any way to avoid any human contact with any sort of car seller or finance person of any sort and still get your hands on a good new/1 year used vehicle and not some junker off blocks from a back alley?

Somewhere some has to have made this process easier, i punch some numbers into my phone and a car gets delivered? Autotrader had some annoying bearded hipster douche commercials but he was still talking to people at dealerships, i dont want any of that.

Carmax was my choice for the same criteria. I still had to talk to someone (some Indian guy who thankfully picked up pretty quickly that I didn't want to be his pal and wanted to get this done with no bullshitting around), but it was more straightforward than a dealership.

I'm not sure why the auto industry still uses the standard of negotiating with hucksters. I rly hope Amazon puts them all out of a job in the next 10-20 years.

Aside from what I posted in that thread, some general observations:
    1. At least in my area, car sales seems to have evolved a lot. The Chevy and Honda dealerships I went to had all their stock posted online, and the prices were at least pretty reasonable, and didn't have a ton of wiggle room (exactly how I like it, I don't want to spend 4 hours talking to some sleazebag to watch the price go down $8k from where I started through a bunch of theatrics)
    2. For the Chevy dealership in particular, the sales guy told us straight up there was no sales commission percentage at all anymore, and he loved it that way. He could help us out, and we would buy the car or not, at listed prices, and he didn't have to pressure us at all. When I ended up going w/the Ridgeline, his only reply to me was "good for you man, that's a great truck!"
    3. Even the list prices (showing MSRP) in the 5 or so vehicles I looked at, had wiggle room, but it was more like $1k-1.5k tops, and almost everyone was willing to admit that almost immediately.
    4. When I ended up inquiring about my Ridgeline, the guy answered almost all my questions via email. Even our price "negotiations" were almost entirely done via email. In person I asked him straight up if there was any more wiggle room at all if I bought that same day, and he said "$400, and that's really it", and I believed him (matched up well to all the research I did online).
    5. While I was looking around for used stuff, I found carguru.com to be pretty useful. A couple of the places I pinged through there were very responsive (again, all by email).

It's still not where I'd like, where you can just go to a website, put the car in a cart, and pick it up, but I have to say the whole process is waaaaaaay better than what I recall from 10 years ago.

Yeah, I think that sounds right. The guy I talked to at Honda had a title of Fleet/Internet Manager. No bullshit, just quick quotes and answering all my questions via email.

i do not experience this issue when I pay cash for a car

i also view you fundamentally retarded if you bought a car at your age not straight cash

You can buy a Tesla online and they’ll deliver it to your house

I wish every car company had this option

The Toyota dealership where we bought our car is owned by a group with a few dozen dealerships of all brands. They don't pay their salesman commission on the vehicle and the price is non negotiable (with the exception of extras like floor mats and roof rack). The price was less then I had spent 3 days negotiating down a price on the same car at another dealership (maybe 40% of the edmunds range for that vehicle). We walk in and they do everything on Ipads and come sit with you. I got t-boned at a light in the new Rav4 (less then a year old) we bought my wife at a light 30 minutes from my nieces wedding in Alabama. It flipped the car on its side and deployed all the air bags. We came out with only scratches and bruises. I am pretty much sold on Toyotas because of the accident and the dealership. We would have been upside down on the loan except we bought an expensive warranty which was fully refunded and we ended up with a $1000 bucks. We bought a Highlander and we love it. The plan is when my son goes to school we will buy a Tundra for myself in 1.5 years. As long as we both stay employed at the level we are at we should be good.
