It just works
as long as mine doesn't get infected with a shitty OS, I'm good
does mac do the embedded advertising thing in osx?
it almost feels redundant to pick up an adware malware infectiono in windows given all the embedded advertising it comes pre-packaged with
eventually managed to turn most of that off on my main PC, but havent been able to bring myself to give a shit enough to figure it out all over again on my laptop
I have never experienced anything like that with windows. Where are you seeing these ads pal?
on my main pc now and i've removed them, but if i remember correctly there are some, for example, embedded in the windows 10 app-based replacement for the start menu. this kind of stuff:
also it took me a bit to figure out how to make cortana shut the fuck up
on my laptop, where i haven't removed the embedded ads, it also detects when i turn stepmania on
and a little sidebar notification box pops up that says something about me playing a game. dont have a picture of it handy, but looks sort of like this:
i think that may be an acer thing rather than a windows 10 thing but am not really sure v0v
truly an unmanageable unimaginable dystopian OS hellscape
also apps are stupid
everything was just fine as programs
give me my programs back
and get off my internet lawn
Wow I have never had anything like that. I guess I just shut off/uninstall that garbage without even noticing. I did have a minor issue with the new box and xbox play or whatever its called. But even that was a pretty easy fix.
i have all that garbage on my work and personal laptops. Like, this is a govt-issued laptop and the windows pane will advertise Minecraft. I am too lazy/inept to remove it, but I did spend 5-10 minutes trying to figure it out and couldn't.
Microsoft is doing a lot of things right these days but holy fuck whoever approved allowing ads from the OS needs to be fucking shot.
Windows 10 isn't 8/Vista levels of bad, but I still prefer OSX by a country mile. Sometimes I wonder how many people actually try both without bias and just decide for themselves.
Me, and barring severe changes in the desktop market, it will always be that way.
It's been over a decade now I think where I have always used both daily (usually mac for work and windows for home, though that has reversed for brief periods), and I plan on always remaining multi-platform. If anything it's easier than ever before because most tools worth a fuck these days are either browser based or built on a web platform (like electron) so there is zero reason for me to ever change this pattern.
TBH I find mac/windows bashing mostly amusing/ridiculous from people since I do this. Almost everyone overstates the benefits of one while downplaying the problems of the other.

p.s. macs suck for gaming tho lol
This is actually a UI designer's worst nightmare. It's like a visual list of what not to do.
Buttons/icons of like 15 different sizes all jumbled together, huge navigation area housing a bunch of buttons that don't serve important functions (Copy To, Rename, etc), the same font weight/size used everywhere, tiny little arrows that all do something different, and my personal favorite: the bottom-aligned navigation titles (CLIPBOARD, ORGANIZE, NEW, etc) that don't even need to exist.
It's a beautiful mess and I want to know if Microsoft actually employs UI people or if they just have their engineers do the layouts.
i have no particular attachment to windows OS UI or OS generally; i use it because there is some software available on it (like Unity / various games) that i can't easily run in linux
but that's the other thing: my preferred alternative is Ubuntu, not OSX
