lol, I couldn't decide where to put this so I decided here was best for posterity sake. I know someone else had one of these and since I have gone through all the trouble of figuring this appliance out and troubleshooting common problems with it. Just thought I would leave it here.

Basically considering this appliance is over $500 it has been disappointing. Now its performance when working is great, ice is perfect, and it has worked well for our family of 5.

First problem is this annoying noise that it started making after about 3 months. I would say it was a screeching sound. It slowly got worse and then topped off at a nice annoying level of screech. Sorta like a small animal dyeing or something. Second problem was that it stopped making ice at about 6 months.

Second problem was easy to fix, you basically need to vacuum out the compressor coil on the side of the machine so as to remove dust that reduces its efficiency. This needs to be done once a month, we just do it whenever the vacuum is near the kitchen.

The noise problem is a little more complicated. I have seen and read legit reviews by people who have replaced this appliance up to 5 times and had this problem every single time. It is caused by lack of lubrication in a gear box that rotates using a screw drive. Manufacturing Fail.

Basically go buy a bottle of Paslode Cordless Nail Gun lubricant at Lowes or Home Depot. I'm sure there is other choices, but this one had several appliance repair men approving it. I looked over the spec sheet for it and its highly refined & perfect for this application. You have to get about half - whole bottle into the gear box.

    Here is the oil

Here is a shitty video on how to do it. If someone actually does this feel free to ask me questions. I might even make a good video to put on youtube. Now that I have done it. I did one step he didnt describe in the review. It was annoying but a satisfying repair. The best kind of recycling is fixing things.

I don't rly understand paying that much for something that most refrigerators do these days. I mean sure it's probably nicer looking cubes but really is it worth that much to pay for a stand alone appliance part the additional space needed?

the point is to be able to make SPECIFIC shapes utumno. god, have you never entertained real professionals at a party?

you need at least four different shapes/type of ice:

-cubes (if truly fancy, in two different sizes depending on whether for a neat liquor or an old-fashioned type cocktail)
    -spheres
    -crescent
    -crushed

that machine is CRITICAL to entertaining the ELITE of north carolina

Refrigerator ice tastes kind of nasty/stale due to the air exposure or oxidation or whatever the fuck it is (insert science here), but I think ur still correct that u rly don't need to spend $600 on a standalone appliance that apparently doesn't even work that well.

I do this with a $10 cooler for my iced coffee

it's based on the radical idea of placing water into a freezer so that it turns into ice

yeah I don't even care about the aesthetic - I just didn't like using my icemaker's ice and it tasting slightly like everything else I had in my freezer

my iced coffee has gotta be at least as good as what I can buy at Starbucks, and cloudy ice that tastes faintly like vegetables wasn't gonna cut it
