I broke down last month and succumbed to targeted ads and bought an ergata rower (think peloton yet somehow more obnoxious.)

2 things since it got delivered Saturday.
-rowing is fucking fierce. 15 mins and arms and legs were jelly. But I popped on 3 times Saturday for a few small rows just testing different things and couldn’t wait to get back Sunday, and out of town mon-weds and bummed won’t get it in and bummed and was like ‘okay maybe I can get 15 in and shower again’ . How well suited it is for watching TV is nice, treadmills are good but always impact based and stationary bike position is just awkward and no matter what somehow sitting stationary for an hour is more painful on your ass than biking 4 hours on road

-it is ugly as fucking hell, which I expected, but it matched my hardwood floor and thought maybe wouldn’t be as bad as the dumb ads that talk about how it nicely fits in when you can see what a giant eye sore it is, but nope.
I moved it into my 3rd bedroom that serves as my cats toilet and hoped to use some time off this Christmas to turn into an actual spare room but I guess now will be just an obnoxious exercise room.

So is watching TV/Movies while rowing a big draw (aside from the fact that it's rly good exercise?)

I can totally get why ppl would find a lot of exercise machines boring over time.

I've slowly started to get back into running and some basic home gym lifting stuff since injuring my back 2 years ago. I went up to about ~215, which is the fattest I've ever been (6' 2") and I don't like it. In 2019 I was around ~195 and would prefer to be back down around there.

I'm really disappointed I can't run like I used to, went from doing 100miles/month to like 3 miles a quarter. Being able to do some light exercise without debilitating lower back pain has been rly nice though. Been trying to stretch a lot and do core stuff and I think it's definitely helping. Weirdly my back will start getting mad if I don't do any long walks/runs now once or twice a week. I think the WFH sedentary lifestyle has passed the tipping points where it's worse for me than better for me.

I know the Concept2 is the gold standard, but is there a ramen noodle budget option for rowing machines that anyone has tried?

My workout routine has taken a backseat to playing tennis for the last few months and I’m starting to feel a little soft. You’d think tennis would be enough of a cardio workout to make up for skipped runs but apparently not.

If I do a shoulders+back workout and try to play without waiting a day or two I can feel things wanting to tear and sprain. I need to figure out a new schedule that fits everything in

i feel like both you and your opponent have to be pretty good to make tennis an actually effective workout. if every rally ends in 2-3 shots, tennis is a lot of walking around and not a lot of running

That’s most of it, yeah. We get some good rallies in now and then but the distribution is definitely skewed.

At the time it feels like I’m getting a lot of short sprints in—even on short rallies, usually—but it doesn’t add up to enough, evidently.

M’lady usually tires out after one set, too, so it’s not like we’re putting in several straight hours of high intensity play

I was expecting peloton pricing but it's only like $900? That seems cheap? Am I looking at the wrong model?

$900 ain't cheap to me. I'm looking for something less than a third as expensive as that. Otherwise I will have to wait.

I had this one, which was half the price of a concept2:

    https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/...kcaek9_GgaAk8KEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#store=442

it was pretty solid and felt well built. I’m not sure adding an extra $500 to the price for a concept2 would have made much of a difference. I liked it because it could fold up and roll into my closet at my condo. It was a really good workout, but I got rid of it when my soccer teams started playing again and I was moving to a different place.

more engaging than music ‍♂️ What ever helps make it habit, and habit of sitting watching TV already a thing so why break that when you can just make it about sitting somewhere else.

Yeah, fair. Someone said the P word and I was immediately thinking 5k+ $40 or more/month.

I liked that idea in principle, but I’d usually row for 10-15 minutes and be gassed. I found a treadmill much better for watching TV, although I needed to crank the sound to hear the show over my wheezing.

i got this off woot at the beginning of covid for 290
    https://www.woot.com/offers/stamina-x-air-rower

it's like 500 now on amazon (tzt fund), it's fine, definitely inferior to a concept but you know, it rows

i don't know how well it'd work for super tall giant freaks like sear though
