Man, I have no investment in Whiskeyjack or Fiddler after 400 pages. Their names seem more memorable than the characters. You'd think with a name like "Whiskeyjack" he might be like a quirky alcoholic or something, but nah - just a generic military dude. His writing style doesn't really tell me what any of these characters are thinking or what their motivations are. In my mind I barely even have a visual for how they look. There's obviously a lot of epic weighty things happening in the book with a richly detailed world. I just haven't been able to care about anyone living in it.
