i read about the temp drop there, fuckin crazy
i can hear the HURR DURR CLIMATE CHANGE YALL comments all the way from over here
oh you're right, climate change not funny enough
every single county here is under a winter storm warning, which is not something I expect to see again in my lifetime
I'm just hoping our power stays on, lots of friends in Dallas have been 10+ hours without any. I have no idea what we're going to do if it shuts off. Huddle in the car with the heat running, I guess?
Do you get your heat from an electric source? I figured most places in Texas would have natural gas-based heating considering the industry there.
I have a gas furnace for heat, but it will not run if the electricity is off. Never seen one that does.
Also, Texas power is surprisingly green, my electricity plan is 100% wind-based. Supposedly frozen wind turbines are one of the reasons we're having problems right now.
I think I'm lucky my house hasn't been hit with an outage yet tonight. Most of my Dallas friends are angry/miserable atm.
a pal of mine in Dallas (who is in fairly poor health) said she's been out of power for hours and it was only supposed to be one hour outage? kinda worried she's gonna freeze to death.
Look bro, there's the 48% of Texas who voted for Beto and then there's the 52% who voted for Ted Cruz. I don't associate with the latter group.
It is fucking ungodly cold here right now tho (4 degrees in Dallas atm) and reminding me of why I will never move to somewhere where this is ordinary. Give me 100 degree summer weather all day over this shit.
hell yeah. BUDZ LOUNGE coming through in the clutch after the 90000 evangelical churches in Oklahoma do nothing
Cold weather blows
Yeah I’m stupid and realized this shortly after I posted. A gas hot water heater may still work but the furnace will not.
"This is a good time to note that the electrical grid in Texas was deregulated, privatized, and removed from interconnected networks to avoid federal regulation and increase profits to a small number of wealthy individuals."
2 be fair though this is some historically bad/weird freak weather pattern for Texas. I doubt it's going to be recurring whereas CA problems almost certainly will be (because we're only getting hotter and drier every year).
