I have always thought using the constitution as justification for anything is intellectually bankrupt. To me its the equivalent of saying "but some guy a long time ago said I could."

A bunch of white guys that owned slaves and had no idea how the world would evolve thought this was a good idea 200 years ago so it's fine guys.

I get what you are saying Daikyu, the American constitution isn't the sacred and perfect text as some make it out to be, but just because some guy said it a long time ago doesn't make it bad either. Some of your founding fathers were very smart people and many parts of it are rather timeless, e.g. it outlines basic freedoms, approximately corresponding to the basic freedoms later defined in the UN Declaration of Universal Human Rights.

As for changing the constitution, in the end it comes down to ethics. How do you evaluate those changes? Most people unfortunately subscribe to some kind of rule ethics [1], using the bible, laws, the U.S. constitution or Das Kapital as the foundation of their ethics. You can't easily change such rules, because those people take them as axiomatic, and lack the ethical toolbox to evaluate any changes. Unfortunately, the requisite utility (or welfare) theory haven't really caught on with the masses, and until they do, the process of changing the rules is going to be extra difficult and erratic. I feel this should be taught in school.

Old trains still technically work but they suck balls. That’s the constitution.

Meanwhile while we bemoan the deficiencies in the U.S. constitution, the internet just brought us this window into end-game communism:

    Looks progressive as fuck.

Excessive flattery of dear leader: a product of both end game communism and the ancient horse and carriage US constitution.

i would love to see the list of complements in this video compared to trump's eventual comments after he inevitably turns on them

Pretty sure it's a regular NK band performing (North Korea, K-pop, get it?).

I thought the excessive flattery was actually the least striking part of the NK video (look at audience vs. performers) , but that is generally a trademark of leaders with authoritarian tendencies.

I think we can all agree that in terms of scope it's a false equivalency though.

Well they’ve had decades of it. Trump changed the character of govt. in less than 4. And almost had 8.

    It’s the same thing.

We were discussing the deficiencies of the U.S. constitution and capitalism, which was been around for a bit more than 4 years (and even survived Trump). If you honestly think NK and the USA are comparable, I give up. I realize TZT likes to paint stuff in black and white, but it won't kill you to say that the U.S. constitution is pretty good after all, even if imperfect.

God damn, Baneden. Yes, they made a joke. Didn't it tip you off when he wrote "K-pop girlboss shit" and there were just 500 stony-faced men in the audience (+4 token old women in dresses) looking at a girl band bending over for Dear Leader. These were likely high-tier NKers at some communist party celebration.

Obviously in a vacuum of constitution vs no constitution, the constitution is pretty awesome. The important part of the debate is whether or not the constitution, and the cultural/political approach to it, is sufficient to some alternative document (or set of documents) or some alternative approach.

My gut instincts tell me that the American constitution and the American approach to their constitution are pretty dogshit compared to other analogous countries, but I'm not prepared to defend that at all as my knowledge base is pretty low. Can someone who is INFJ weigh in so I know what to think?

BTW, you keep talking about Myers–Briggs lately, but I thought it's empirical basis was rather dogshit? I mean, it's a categorization, but do we have any evidence that people actually cluster neatly into these 16? types, and it covers all dimensions of importance?
