Piling on the fuck the centre/safe/electable train. After Kerry lost in 2004, the left thought they needed to run a centrist red-state democrat to win in 2008. Then, a black guy from Chicago named Barack Hussein Obama got over 69 million votes (top three Presidential vote getters all time: 1. Obama 2. Obama 3. Clinton, Hillary).

Authenticity, message delivery >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> age, sex, race, experience

Warren can deliver on authentic messaging, especially on economics and inequality. I think she would be a great candidate.

Hopefully Abrams and Gillum run too, and get to Beto level press coverage.

I'm optimistic about the Democratic field. The DNC should be bending over backwards to increase primary participation. Fuck super delegates, fuck closed primaries.

I think Warren's history suggests she would be very unlike HRC in condescending to the working class; I cannot imagine her having a 'deplorables' moment. I'd worry that her wonk cred could come off as condescending, although I think she generally does a much better job coming off as relatably, understandably angry on behalf of citizens than HRC ever did.

I look forward to the 4 years of “But her DNA...” memes when Warren loses in 2020.

Not rly convinced macro or policy skills will resonate w/ swing state voters. The yard stick in the US basically seems to be tax cuts & stock market gains. Maybe she can push the jobs angle.

Trump is really making mostly the right noises on some issues, he is just a liar and incompetent.

do you even know how economics works, the answer is no

remember when velox described placing VR headsets on as if you have one eye

how do you type an entire argument based around the concept of no depth perception and press (save changes) to let everyone know you're retarded, only velox knows

Sure, I agree with that. I don't think competence or principles make her electable. They just mean it would be great if she could be.

But I also think she has a more genuine populist appeal in her speech-making than HRC. She comes off as your educated, righteously pissed off grand mother - maybe not as effective as Bernie or AOC, but I don't think she's nearly as boring or unrelatable to watch as HRC was.

On the other hand, as already discussed, the Fauxcahontas thing is looking like a serious branding problem. And that's especially sad, since the original allegations seem to have been entirely unfounded.

    4. Trump, Donald

It's almost like they're all recent because our population has increased. :hmm:

And the black guy from Chicago wasn't all that progressive.

He was both "electable" and capable of energizing the left base, though. We can have both of those things.

Warren, one of the smartest and most passionate advocates for not getting fucked over by the banking class we've ever seen, is unelectable because of one DNA comment gaffe.

Trump, who literally posts gibberish every fucking day on twitter while behaving like an absolute lunatic, trashing war heros, paying off hookers, and basically acting like a toddler, however, is the guy to beat and we are all terrified.

    Seriously FUCK this country already.

To be fair, it was a little more than a gaffe; Trump actively provoked her with his "million dollars for charity if you can prove you have Native-American heritage" bullshit and she took the bait, then walked that right into getting walloped by traditional democratic identity politics for having done so. The concern is that that could be a template for their interactions on the campaign trail, which just looks like she's playing into his moronic game.

But yeah, it is pretty depressing. American political culture is right and truly fucked.

She is electable and would certainly do better than Hillary with her messaging. I just think there's risk attached that doesn't exist with other candidates. It's not a personal thing for me because our society makes it this way.

I am all ears to anyone who wants to convince me that Warren gives us the best chance of getting Trump out of office, though.

That was never the argument to begin with, though--I was only ever saying I think it's a big stretch to say she's the *worst*, or even an especially bad candidate. She's massively popular with the Democratic electorate and most of the Left that isn't encompassed by that with the one exception of this DNA thing (although I do agree with Agrul's description of why it's worth worrying about beyond its immediate effect on her reputation).

It's true she won't be likely to grab many republicans who've decided Trump isn't their guy, but I don't think very many of them can be grabbed by anyone, really, and I can't imagine there are that many out there that would vote for Trump *only* to vote against Warren, specifically.

Yeah I get it was a really dumb move, I just get depressed thinking about how that dumb move (plus having a vag) realistically might cause her to lose against someone who has turned over pretty much his entire working staff in the time he's been in office. The dude cannot even lead his own cabinet and direct reports, much less a country, and regularly says horrible/embarrassing things nonstop.

I mean a lot of y'all have brought up good points for/against Warren, but I'm sitting here thinking I don't even know how to have an opinion anymore, because I don't really think anyone here is representative of who ends up deciding our next president/govt. Since the last election, I have come to believe our govt. is decided by barely-literate mouthbreathers that judge everything they think by what they last saw on TV and what their fav reality TV stars say. Who the fuck knows of Joe-Snappy-But-Senile one-liners or Liz-I'll-Fight-For-What-Little-Fiscal-Rights-You-Have-Left or Bernie-I-Have-Great-Ideas-But-Am-Turning-105-next-month has a better chance with "the masses".

Out of the top potential candidates (Beto, Biden, Sanders, Warren), I think she is the worst option, though. I went into detail on why.

I don't think she's even the best female candidate - why not Kamala Harris if we're taking that risk?

These preliminary hypothetical polls are retarded, but do you think it's a little concerning when this is where she lands against Trump?
