Bitcoin, Markets, etc...
« on: March 16, 2017, 01:29:58 AM »
Haven't seen mention of Bitcoin in forever on here.

To those uninterested really, do you ever hear about it? Just crossed over $20bn market cap recently and was in the news a tad when it was higher per 1 BTC than 1 oz gold. Kind of amazing because its tech is really outclassed by all of its clones some of which are up ridiculous amounts.

http://coinmarketcap.com/

The lottery, casino, scam, whatever you call it yourself... these markets are fucking ridiculous. The alt coin market cap is another 5 billion.

As for the DJIA/NASDAQ etc. Up nicely too. Where does that end? It has been fun watching all the green.

Does anyone have any crypto at all on this board?

i considered doing some bcoin mining but it didn't seem worthwhile at this stage in the game

and i dont have much interest in speculating in a market as volatile as it or the other cryptocurrencies are
Irony punctuation is any proposed form of notation used to denote irony or sarcasm in text. Written English lacks a standard way to mark irony, and several forms of punctuation have been proposed. Among the oldest and most frequently attested are the percontation point proposed by English printer Henry Denham in the 1580s, and the irony mark, used by Marcellin Jobard and French poet Alcanter de Brahm during the 19th century. Both marks take the form of a reversed question mark, "⸮".

I don't mind speculating, but it's such a pain in the ass to safely? buy/sell cryptocurrencies. Also, I don't see much use for Bitcoin besides of criminal activiites (ransomware ftw?). Not sure I want to support that. Somebody should plot ransomware extortion + online drug sales vs. the Bitcoin price over time.

ive been hodling bitcoin for a couple of years now. I've bought from the low $200's and even some as high as $800. Its been a wild ride. I stopped speculating on a daily basis a while back as it was bad for my health. Now i dont even check its price all that often. Its been a wild ride.

I thought I'd get some bitcoin then discovered it's almost fucking impossible now since Circle dropped it, Coinbase ID verification is a broken POS, and other methods require meeting some bitcoin dealer in a shady parking lot somewhere.

They wanted a linkedin profile lol. I havent bought in a few months either. and ive never sold on coinbase. IRS is going apeshit on them im pretty sure. I wish there was a nice secure swiss bitcoin exchange or something ha.

So... I made so much money in the last 3 weeks... its utter insanity.

www.coinmarketcap.com

It's hard to recommend any buys right now, but if you want to get rich I will tell you this now. Get some MEME coin. No fucking kidding. You guys didn't believe me before I was selling BTC for $20 each on this board. There's a ton of coins, but this is my one free tip. Don't buy it if you don't want I don't give a shit. Just throwing it out there.

How/where do you buy this? Don't know if I'll try this (seems high risk to put it mildly) but I'm curious.

I think agrul and Jxands are probably right

Sadly bitcoin is kind of hard to get... and driving the price up.

Anyway... Coinbase.com is the one really reliable place to get it. Other than that try to find a BTC atm in your area and receive with app on phone (blockchain app is good) localbitcoins.com is another option. Coinbase though to get started is trusted and good... and regulated too... so that is a drawback for some, flying in the face of the bitcoin ethos etc... but its a place to get some. Anyway. Once you have some you can create an account on an exchange... bittrex, poloniex are the only two i really use. im sure there are more. I would say just buy a little bit or at least follow the price. Coinbase also has an app too... its good.

Running nodes is some good profit too... could give info on that if anyone interested.

It seems to be the sort of thing that people grab when they're panicking about the economy, a bit like gold.

The point is, though, gold has some sort of intrinsic value. You can make pretty necklaces and stuff out of it. I'm damned if I can see what the intrinsic value of bitcoin is, at least to the extent that it justifies the current prices. That's why people bring up the tulip bubble thing.

The thing is its been around a while, and its eclipsed gold. I know its silly shit... I'm certainly a realist... I don't really buy into all the bitcoin way of the future forever thing... but I certainly see its value just traded as-is as a valuable commodity... it is literally quite valuable. How much is something worth? Exactly what you can sell it for. Unless its like food or bullets :)

It seems people have been predicting the death of bitcoin in two weeks forever now.  I myself have been a major doubter for much of that time, but at this point... it seems the only thing that could possibly kill bitcoin is a superior cryptocurrency that gains enough mindshare to completely supplant it.  I really thought the Mt. Gox fiasco would be the type of event that would destroy faith in BTC but it somehow managed to survive that and still keep on growing.  I think the market for hard-to-trace non-country-bound currency is never going to go away, it's just too useful to underground markets.

If you go and read bitcoin forums, they sound a bit like a cult. They're deeply emotionally invested in it and probably won't sell unless they're forced to. That's really where it gets its value from, and it won't probably won't lose much value until that emotional investment fades.

this is my assumption as well.  no doubt the fanaticism of some of these ppl also boost value as samassi said but i think the primary value prop is anonymous currency, and that need is never going to go away
