Style: which of these do you like best? (image heavy)

Title says it all. Which style do you like the best? Do you dislike any of them? Do any feel cheap / unoriginal / whatever?



Try not to pay attention to the subject matter / contents of the artwork (although I've tried to keep that similar for comparison's sake), but rather just the way it's painted. Got them sorted by number here:

1. I'm a sucker for this style. Really like it.
2. The *style* is ok, the particular piece feels a little gaudy to me, probably just because of the color scheme, but it's not bad -- just not my taste.
3. I don't dislike it but Ringling's illustration program absolutely *reeked* of this style. It's been done to death for me. The fact that I don't still don't *hate* it speaks pretty highly of it though, I guess.
4.Impressive technically but kinda tacky.

6.Hate it hate it hate it. Is it Amano? I fucking hate the way he draws faces, but even disregarding that, this just is not my taste at all.
7.I could see a piece in this style being pretty cool. This particular one doesn't do much for me.
8.Kinda like the style. Would have to see some more like it.
9. I really liked the illustrations for MGS. I like concept-art style a lot in general. It doesn't get old for me.
10.I like the brush-work. I don't like the shape of the chick's face because it's awkward, but the rendering and color scheme is nice.
11. Hard to over-look the subject matter. I like the fine detail-work of the drawing and the colors are ok, but I guess "cheap and overdone" applies here. If it was a drawing of something else I could probably say more certainly how I feel about the style, but I look at this and I get this knee-jerk "more gay FF crap" reaction.

I like 2, 5, 10.

I like the use of contrasting colors in 2, as well as the mix of angular and soft lines - maybe they did that to complement the complementary colors lol.

The brush strokes and the mood of the painting in 5.

the red lips in the otherwise (not sure what the term would be) black and white color scheme I like the lines/strokes whatever those are.

I like looking at #1 but I would not hang it in my house.

Ugh I can agree with this sentiment. Upon further review 6, 9, and 11 are gross.

Searyx where did you get 6 from. Every once and a while i want some FF art from the old days and the 10 minutes i take to find it never turns anything up.

ya, it is just the WoWish, Comic Book, Heavy Metal feel that I don't like.  The comic one, #9 I think I more dislike the content over the style so I'd probably retract my statement, but 6 and 11 are just not my kind of art.

Is 6 Celes from FF3?

I really like 3 for some reason... has a lot of "depth" I guess (that's the best artistic desc you'll get from me lol)

5 is my favorite, although I see merit in all of them (some more than others, though).  5 is a flavor of impressionism, right?  That kind of style feels like modernism and is the style I picture scenes in my head in when I read novels from 1900-1935

I like them all, but 1 and 4 are certainly my favorites. 1 in particular. Beautiful stuff.
