In a Republican form of government, you are free to do whatever you want, as long as you don't inflict personal harm, destroy private property, or commit intentional fraud.

In a democracy, it's mob rules, and whatever happens happens.

Welcome to being on every watch list in the world and also getting anally probed internationally.

“At least once every human should have to run for his life, to teach him that milk does not come from supermarkets, that safety does not come from policemen, that “news” is not something that happens to other people.” - Robert Heinlein, The Number of the Beast.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others." - Nelson Mandela 1994 Inaugural Speech

Seems like everyone is tossing out their predictions with the hopes of being the next Mises or Hayek.

There's a problem, but I'd leave the apocalyptic doomsday scenarios for Australian movies.

In other news Greece tanked, T minus (time here) until the Germany reissues the Deutsche Mark and tells the EU to fuck off.

From the guy who throws an absolute conniption when I say something is shit and then spends 3 pages bitching about empirical data and studies.  Wink My irony meter is now borked.

I was referencing Mises prediction the GD and the hyperinflation of the Mark. (hence the second reference to the mark) Economists seem to be in full PR mode trying to get the predictions out to get their name known. You know, that thing Kruggy does every editorial. Mises theories on business cycles still hold true for the most part. We are witnessing several right now.

edit: I had to qualify some of Mises theories on business cycles. Like all things economic nothing explains everything and don't bother with the Friedman's arguments against Mises/hayek business cycle theories. Milton had his own issues in his argument and it seems like he was just pissed Hayek was getting more press. Although some of his points were sound, some were a stretch.

you didn't say anything defending praxeology there, and i don't know enough about the austrian theory of the business cycle to agree or disagre

I forgot. You keep saying things like that and you might lose your secret Fed decoder ring and junior Keynesian membership.  cheesy

doubtful, i haven't met many people who vehemently dislike hayek. anyone who writes The Use of Knowledge in Society and The Sensory Order: An Inquiry into the Foundations of Theoretical Psychology can't be all bad. i've also tried reading his Prices and Production in PDF but have failed so far

you can't really care for praxeology all that much if you're willing to write about the relationship between mind and brain grin

economists don't actually know anything. They play with numbers and couch their discourses in intellectual rhetoric, but they are as scientific as sports announcers guessing who is going to win.
