The new expansion was developed for raiders, all 85+ level zones. Unless you have raid gear from the previous expansion, you're going to get raped in the new expansion.

Wrong. My Planes of Power gear plus highly developed skills honed on Tallon Zek circa 1999 through 2002, the peak of Everquest if you will, is more than enough to dominate the current generation of soft EQ players and the soft MOBs Sony put in the game for them almost as an after-thought. Skill > Gear Nice try though at convincing us not to play so you can control the new zones without a fight.

I hate people who have circa 1999 through 2002 gear, it reeks of old spice and irish spring soap. You just try and come back, I will train and corpse camp you to keep you from advancing and then train you some more, I learned from the best in Pandemonium. WHAT R U GUNNA DO WHEN THE TRAIN COMES DOWN ON YOU????

its so weird i always feel like EQ basically died at around the time i quit (wow) and then you have a look at the expansion list and i realise i missed more expansions than i played
then again kunark or velious were worth 10 of the newer pieces of shit and ldon was probably worth -5

This. Luclin was the beginning of the end.

This. Luclin was the beginning of the end. Luclin had only two decent raid zones, Ssra and Vex Thal. I still remember the huge battles in Ssra temple between Disconation and Pande.

VT was not a "decent" raid zone.
It sucked major donkey ass.
Ssra was okay, at least the encounters were kinda fun.

Are you kidding? VT was the end zone loot candy of Luclin, I loved it. It may have been tedious to kill trash but what end zone doesn't have trash?

It was far from loot candy. Everything involved with that zone was a time sink piece of shit. As soon as PoP came out VT was basically useless. The available loot and time sinks in PoP (not including the backflag bullshit) was multiple times less than VT and a full VT geared guild wasn't needed for PoP.

Yeah and didn't everything in that expansion have like a million times more HP than necessary to just drag fights out?

Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Dr. Qubhed prematurely stepped into the project accelerator, and vanished. He awoke to find himself in an old post, suffering from partial lurkdom and facing a mirror username that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own message board was maintained through private mail transmissions with Al, the project observer, who appears in the form of a instant message, that only Dr. Qubhed can see and read. Trapped in the posts, Dr. Qubhed finds himself leaping from thread to thread, putting things right that once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next reply will be the link to his homepage.

The big problem I had with Luclin and beyond was gear, up until then gear was not a deciding factor in pvp. Sure if you sported full Kael/Skyshrine velious armor you had an edge over someone without, but it by no means guaranteed victory. As a druid once resists got too high I turned into a 1 click wonder, maybe 2, the rest was just heal botting it. The mob fights were not hard but yes horribly long due to high hitpoints / armor / regen on all the bosses, it just screamed "train us train us!" Other then that though few fights required alot of work or skill, I think at the end of Luclin era my team was 10 manning Seru and VT though VT took ages, you only needed 2-3 on a CH rot to do it.

If you are talking about the shards needed for the key, it took camping some mobs yes. Other than that, the loot in that zone was the best of the expansion and we almost cleared the zone the first time we were there, you just need to park your mages in certain spots to CoH people through, the next day. Of course PoP loot was better. That's the way all newer expansions are. PoP flagging was horrid beyond words, easily beating VT hands down for annoying expansions.

Near the end of Disco running VT that's basically how it was pulled. It was a free for all aoe, which was actually kind of fun.

Masked Invaders is now a super easy raid. It is now used to farm keys for the next tier. We are pretty close to being keyed for the last tier that is released.
