@Sear. I'm not "deep" in the red. Lol. I'm down Some yes from what I put in back in February, but You do realize that it doesn't take much of a jump upward to go drastically back in the green, especially in this crypto world. I also fully expected periods of being below my starting USD and periods being above. Everything is as expected. I'm 100% comfortable with how I've been playing the game since I started my 2nd trader account. What matters to me is where I end up when I've quit the race, not where I am a week from now.

You very well can call me a complete failure all you like because I might happen to be below at the moment, but should I end it when I'm seriously above, then what does that say for how I ultimately played?

I get that some of you are very emotionally tied to the swings. It can make you emo, angry, or depressed. maybe you shouldnt be in crypto or reduce how much you're playing with.

I'm still having fun with my little coin increases here and there.

I am not calling you anything. I am just tired of Kanmuk using you as a prop for his arguments, when you two are not using the same system (and in fact have trading mentalities that are virtually opposite).

Oct: I disagree with him because I see some value in you researching the products.

You lose me when it comes to holding through heavy losses instead of setting a stop-limit, though.

Re: emotion. I don't care about losing a few hundred when I took thousands from this already. I do care when I read about low-middle class people becoming alcoholics because they followed bad advice on a glorified ponzi scheme. I'm not going to pretend that this is okay just to keep the vibes positive. Part of me wants crypto to die because of the negative impact it has already had on society.

Lol. Made another good lil chunk off DNT. Bought a bunch at 525 sats before I went to bed and set a sell at 575. Woke up and my sell order hit and dnt is back to the 550 range. Moved it back into Link which also dropped a lil from my sell point and made about a 13% increase from what I was trading.

I don’t know what you are upset about regarding Octavionn, friend. There are two parts of his trading strategy: 1) passive holding of ICX, NANO and LINK; and 2) active trading between those three coins + DNT based on price movement.

The results from those strategies can confound one another. Straight buy-and-hold, unless you entered at very specific times, has been a total disaster for most of 2018. However, he HAS had a lot of success increasing his coin count (he has posted his results in this thread). This means A) he has mitigated buy-and-hold losses; and B) he will be profitable with smaller increases in coin price than people that didn’t actively trade. Octavionn has posted his trading successes here, but we have to be careful not to place “white paper” or “fundamental” attributions on any of those successes, as they are based almost entirely on price movement.

That’s not some justification of his entire trading strategy, or a declaration of success, it’s acknowledgement that the successes he *HAS* had have had little to nothing to do with his belief in ICX, NANO and LINK, and that those coins will probably have to moon 10x, 20x, or more, before he can claim the effectiveness of his white paper jockeying. Even if he might be profitable after a 1.5x or 3.0x because he has more coins than he did four months ago, either by trading or dumping in money during dips.

In what sense does increasing the number of Internet coins you have "mitigate buy-and-hold losses"?

As for the broader issue of my skepticism towards asset picking or market timing, that is a fairly mainstream academic view and one that is actually fairly conservative (rather than aggressively contrarian like my posts in the workout thread).

I take it a step farther, in that if markets are difficult to time then we also probably need to question the predictive value of traditional indicators (e.g. “fundamentals”) and whether or not overconfidence in those indicators can lead to error. I think we need to be particularly worried about that in crypto, because who the fuck knows what is going to happen with any of this shit 7 years from now? Why does Reddit McDipshit think he has the ability to read this shit and predict the future? And why does he tell you and me to try to do it?

I have no problems with people knowing the details of what they are buying. I have problems with people thinking they can read white papers and actually use that information to predict the future with anything close to certainty. You don’t hear - “DYOR and maybe you can find coins that are 3.6% more likely to be successful long term” (even that is sketchy). You hear “DYOR NANO is on the precipice of world domination!!!!!”, or “DYOR and don’t miss out in the next big investment opportunity.” I’m against presenting this shit as something that is knowable.

That's some arithmetic for sure, but what does it have to do with buy-and-hold losses?

If the price of your holdings goes down, it doesn't make it any better for your bottom-line if you throw some extra investment cash in to get more shitty holdings. Or did Octavionn increase his coin count without throwing out new money?

I just want to get away from making too many assumptions about his trading strategies. We don't know why he bought DNT.

I'm not a fan of the hyperbolic sales pitches based on fundamentals either, but I think researching fundamentals is a tool that can be used even for swing trading. Nothing about it is certain.

Case in point: you trade on price movement alone, which is probably the most consistent way to approach this market. That said, the people who understand fundamentals bought BTC at $300 and know the answer to "why is EOS a Top 5 coin currently?". You don't. This is not to say that trading based on fundamentals is better or that most people will speculate accurately, though.

also, for what it's worth: people here were buying BTC @ ~3k early in this thread primarily because of fundamentals speculation

of course, the entire market exploded shortly thereafter so you couldn't go wrong with anything, but the coins with strong fundamentals were the ones that gained exponentially

let's predict what happens to the market from here

I see a happy +10% green candle in the past couple hours

does this dump back down like every other little short-term pump in the past six months, or is this the chosen one that Reddit coin goblins have been praying for?
