had coincidentally just been listening to Soundgarden when I read about this + blabbing to my girlfriend about how great the radio music of the early-mid 90's was

I didn't care for Audioslave, but I saw him live once after the Soundgarden reunion. Lots of good memories as a kid listening to them, getting the Road Rash CD game because it had their music, etc.

Here's to hoping Eddie Vedder lives forever since he's the only vocalist left from the grunge big 4 (or 5 if you include Stone Temple Pilots)

That's a trip about the grunge frontmen, I never considered how they've all been dropping. Big EV last man standing.

Yup, I am on a youtube Cornell binge. This era was my era. Another reminder of age flying by.

This is why hair metal will always be better than grunge. Those fuckers are living forever. Especially the ones everyone wants to die like Bret Michaels and Sebastian Bach. Lord knows we'll be stuck with Axl for a few more decades. At least we got rid of Jani Lane!

Ah, yeah, that makes sense. Honestly I've always thought it a little bit weird (I mean I understand why--they sound more like wach other than any of them do like the generation of music before them by a large margin) that Nirvana gets categorized with Pearl Jam, STP, etc. The latter sound so much like cut-off denim vests and hoop earrings to me vs Nirvana's grandpa sweaters and keds

I didn't listen to a lot of soundgraden but I could see them bridging that gap a little I suppose

Death was ruled a suicide btw

pretty shitty for his two kids and wife

I always thought Nirvana was in between Soundgarden and Alice In Chains in terms of sound, with Pearl Jam as the outlier. The former all share that dirty/sludgy sound with high distortion. Pearl Jam did a little bit of that (e.g., "Even Flow"), but even most of their early stuff is cleaner. By 1994 (Vitalogy), they were nothing like the others. They also sound like they retained some small amount of the 80's upbeatness.

I know it's ridiculous to use the term "upbeatness" when discussing 90's grunge, but relatively speaking, their music just seemed more relaxed to me.
