I ate a 12oz filet mignon today that I did a coffee rub on. It was pretty dope. It looks burned, but it's the coffee crust my dudes. Shit was perfect rare-medium rare on the inside. Probably the best steak I've ever cooked myself.

Did first day of my new program yesterday. Holy fuck the burn. I'm used to doing 6-8 reps of everything, this has me at 12-15 of everything. It also has me doing calves, which I don't really need as I have decently sized calves/legs for physique competition. Running 2 miles after doing 8 sets of 15 rep calf exercises sucked donkey dick.

This is getting harder than I thought... I started using myfitnesspal (as always, rly hard to make it a habit but I turned on notifications to nag me + I'm actually asking my kids to bug me about it so it keeps me on track).

It recommended ~1920 calories per day (which historically would be plenty low for me), and after almost a week of that, I had zero weight loss. This is not at all what I've experienced in the past... usually dropping down to 1900 got me some pretty noticeable loss even in just a few days. I guess I'm growing old :/

Trying to drop that a bit further (between 1750-1800) and see how that goes.

What quality of food are you eating, Utumno? It's not always simply a numbers game when it comes to calories. Also, one week is a very small time frame.

I would stick to fruits, vegetables, and whole grains as much as possible. Whole foods (not the store) are the way to go, things that you mostly cook or prepare yourself, or can easily eat raw. Packaged foods with a bunch of preservatives and shit like enriched wheat flour are going to wreck your body. I would limit meat/fish to once a week or less. Cut as much dairy out as you can. Oils are also bad (energy dense, pretty much devoid of nutrients).

I think almost everything credible I've read states that it really is though (at least purely in terms of weight loss anyway, I mean if I had 100% diet of maple syrup maybe that would be different).

That said, I started out that week pretty shoddily I'd say in terms of quality but lately it's been mostly home cooked/natural foods. You're right that it is a small time frame though. I'm not freaking out or anything, I'm actually kindof happy to be paying attention to the food intake now.

You don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about. I would limit listening to your advice to never, or less.

In a deficit you should have lost 3-5lbs of water/glycogen weight in the first week. PM me your stats (age, height, weight, your bodyfat is probably 30+ so I'll use 30% as that number) and I'll get you a good starting point for 1lb a week caloric deficit. Or be a man and post it here like you don't give a fuck.

I mean, yeah, if you're talking about a difference of a hundred calories or more daily that's definitely going to have an impact. I guess I should rephrase what I said and say that there's really no benefit from strictly relying on a calorie counting because your estimations are likely to be inaccurate, and you're better off focusing on eating foods that you know are low-calorie but nutrient-dense. Again, if you're obviously consuming 2500 calories daily when you're needs are more around 1750, you're going to gain weight no matter what you're eating. But it's much harder to eat too many calories on a diet of mostly fruits and vegetables than it is on a diet high in meat, dairy, and processed foods.

Haha, wow. A little mad there, buddy?

Utumno, your TDEE is 2420 for calories, according to the interweb. You should track your calories closely, at least until you know what proper portion sizes are. Tracking everything that goes in your mouth, for at least 2 weeks. You should aim for 1900 calories per day. This should result in 1lb weight loss per week on average. You'll lose 50lbs a year, when you exercise you'll burn more giving you even more weight loss.

The only part that Sanlaven was correct about was that it's harder to overeat with whole foods. Your diet should consist of mostly things you cook. Rice, veggies, butcher meats. I eat 2000 calories a day and I exercise 90-120 minutes a day, and I still have a hard time eating it all. If you're hungry between meals, drink water.

You should shoot for 160 grams of protein at least, this is about 650 of your caloric intake per day. The remaining calories should be like 140g of carbs, and 40-50g of fat. Concentrate on hitting the caloric goal and the protein goal in that order. The caloric goal is most important, followed by protein goal, followed by carb, and then fat. It's a lot more simple than it sounds.

As an example, here's my yesterday. I missed one meal due to stress. I can't eat when I'm stressed out, and I had just been told that my biological father had stopped breathing in the night and was now in the ICU. image1.png image2.png

sry to hear about ur pops.

yeah, 1900 matches up w/what myfitnesspal recommends.

btw - scale suddenly started moving (now 2lbs lost) so that's encouraging.

i'm also being more strict about my measuring, got a food scale that's accurate down to .1 ounce increments so i don't have to try to eyeball anything.
