im more or less an hour south of where a lot of the drowning victims are from (wimberley). I live along the Guadalupe river in a valley down river from about 3 dams.
I dropped my flood insurance last year because it just seemed so unlikely that this drought would break. So far no damage to my home, but jesus I havent slept very well.

P99 Blue is a trip. Its really fun to get lost in that shit. Cant wait for velious. Red99 is a fucking shitfest. But  also fun.

Yeah I read that article and laughed at the 3000kWh for a year. I do that in a month during the late summer.

I still don't like the idea of the solar roadway. Roads are abused and constantly getting fucked up. and being made of shit pulled out of the ground and packed down is already expensive.

Our city (San Antonio) is working on a solar lease system. How do you think it compares to taking out a loan and making payments and then eventually owning your solar cells? I have never seen a solar panel needing repair/replacement. Actually the only damage i've ever seen is faulty wiring or Squirrels chewing electrical trunk cable.

I didn't think it was at all expensive.   I don't know how much the panels would cost to gather enough energy for a house, but the $3500 for the battery would be paid off in 12-30 months, depending on the size of the  house.    I don't recall any mention of how long they'll last, but so long as it is 10+ years, there would be cost savings.

How do you figure this would be paid off in 12-30 months?

It's $3,000 for the smallest battery they offer. Then ~$2,000 for a DC-AC inverter, not including installation and the cost of panels. This is for continuous 2kwh that is about enough electricity to power a single microwave.

From Agrul's link:

And if you don't already have a big enough photovoltaic system to get off the grid, paying the estimated $0.30/kWh for electricity through the Powerwall may not make much sense. On average, grid prices for electricity in the US are about $0.12/kWh. Rooftop solar PV is estimated to reach grid parity in most places by 2016, but it's not quite there yet.

$0.30kWh is three times as much as I currently pay for electricity on the grid.

I'm gonna stand by my assertion that this is expensive. I'm sure it will drop more in the future and it's not terribly far off from being economical, but right now I think it's still in the "toy for rich green advocates" category along with their cars.

Microwaving for half an hour uses roughly 0.6kWh

$3000 is not expensive for a lithium ion battery bank of this size.

Most homes use 50-70 kWh per day in an average region. So you would need to stack these in series. For my needs ($140-$300 electricity bill{maximum draw of 2700 kWh in a month}) I would need approximately 7 of them installed. Given that most people are fairly comfortable with a grid stability of 99.9%, I wouldn't need these batteries. If i paid for Tiered electricity and I could charge one of these batteries at night off the grid, then discharge it into my home when electricity prices were high, it is possible it could pay its self off.
Most useful aspect of these batteries is an off grid system. Also, i believe Musk is sort of "leasing these for 10 years at about 100$ a month then you get new batteries and a new lease at the end of the 10 years.

As for Solar, $15,000 overall cost, if you install most of it yourself, will produce 2700 kWh per month. The panels will produce power for nearly 50 years (at lesser effeciency) and panels are in no shortage. Its possible that there is not enough material to power the entire world in Solar at the moment, though the technology and materials change.

Now think about this. For $15k, a solar system will produce $90,000 worth of electricity by the time its out of Warranty. If there were zero government or utility subsidies, This system would cost roughly $30,000.

there are like 400 low budget scifi movies on netflix all about this topic.

the whole world will dress in crappy desert costumes, water will be scarce, and women are prime for the rape.

i wish the song was better =/ but man. fuckin bravo.

ahh, i scrolled to the bottom of the GoT thread in there but didnt see anyone mention the leak.

I've honestly only watched the first one. I am terrified of having such a long break in viewing mid season.

you know, i may just scrap the idea of building a new one. last year i put in an octo core AMD (was 250ish bucks if i recall) and i've got 16GB of ram. I MIGHT get away with just updating my $100 video card.

what i dont get is after googling the cost of rabies vaccines for humans, the average price i got was $500-1250 total, before insurance payments. How the everliving fuck did your hospital manage to sneak in 30 times the average price? And how did you manage to pay the higher end price out of pocket even with insurance haha.

well there is my new dream pc. i cut the ram from 64 GB to 32 and removed one of the $1100 Titan X GPU's. haha

but seriously, so what type of setup should i aim for to be able to run shit like star citizen in glorious high settings?
my old PC makes it hard to even aim at other ships on low settings. When i watch videos online it seems like people are playing this amazingly fluid super rich texture game, and when i play it im playing fxZero on nintendo 64.

so i was just playing around on that partpicker website and fuckin mobo's support 128GB of RAM? and video cards have 12 GB of RAM. how is this shit relevant to games?

Its almost like a joke how much money they want for some stuff.

Although, if they finish this game and do a really good job of it.. i will be so happy. ever since i played a game on Palm Pilot where you flew from space station to station buying selling and then upgrading your ship, i have wanted to play one really bad. Especially one with all of my cowboy bebop/firefly/outlaw star/star trekky role playing type avenues to go down.
